Wild dogs visiting

5 January 2023

The new year has seen a welcome visit by a pack of wild dogs. They were first spotted on the road from the N1 to Heron Dam, but their tracks have since been seen in a few different areas. It will be interesting to see how long they stay.

Baby eland spotted

27 October 2022

The eland herd on Lissataba is rarely spotted, but they were captured on a camera trap recently. And best of all, a brand new baby eland was spotted amongst them.

Aerial view of Lissataba

On the 3rd October one of the Lissataba owners, Graeme Yates, had the privilege of seeing Lissataba from the air, He took some video footage which was shared with fellow Lissatabans. The attached image is an aerial view of the clubhouse, office, guest rondawels, communal parking and workshop facilities.

Lissataba Plant Communities Survey

Chris Kennedy, the current student at Lissataba, and Robyn Reid, one of the managers, are  conducting a vegetation/plant community survey on Lissataba. They are splitting the reserve into quadrants and then selecting a series of smaller quadrants within each larger portion to survey for species type and vegetation cover, ultimately classifying the various veld types across the property.

Olifants River Clean-up

On Sunday 25 September 2022 an intrepid bunch of local environmental enthusiasts cleaned a portion of the Olifants River of rubbish to honour World Rivers Day. This same section had been cleaned a year ago and the most recent event saw a significant reduction in the amount of litter compared to the previous time. It is possible that the small contributions we are making to respect nature are making a difference. The plan is to make this a more regular outing, to cover more sections of the river (water-level permitting) and to measure and monitor the impact this has on the Lissataba section of the Olifants River.

This is how you get the load shedding schedule for the day, and a few days ahead:

Download the app called EskomSePush from the App Store (Apple) or from Google Play (Android)

Look for Add Area, and add the area called Hoedspruit Outlying (14)

Your app will show you the schedule that applies to Lissataba, and it will warn you ahead of each switch off.

The first newsletter

Not really news, but maybe historical news... The image shows what appears to be the farm's first newsletter, dated May 1993. It was being safely stored in the records at the clubhouse. Although the current format is light years better, the issues appear not to have changed much.

Elusive Eland spotted

4 July 2022

A member of the elusive eland herd was recently spotted at Orchid dam. Although the herd is resident on Lissataba, for some reason they are seldom seen, so this was a fairly rare sighting.

Security training

28 June 2022

The staff have received training on the use of the Earthranger reporting system. This allows management to keep a concise record of all movements and incidents
